Has 'Shops Buckhead Atlanta' Got its Groove Back?

High-end retail district The Shops Buckhead Atlanta just announced a handful of new stores opening over the next couple of months to follow last month’s opening of Tom Ford, COS, and Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. The retail wave comes after the luxe shopping mecca suffered its first casualty earlier this year — American Food & Beverage — prompting some to wonder, perhaps prematurely, if the concept formerly known as Buckhead Atlanta was working.

Coming this spring: Urbana Wellness Spa, NARS Cosmetics, Flywheel, Lindberg, and Kit & Ace. Perusing The Shops Buckhead Atlanta’s website – which features vaguely annoyed-looking models posing atop driftwood – one doesn’t get the clearest sense of what each of these new and soon-to-open businesses, respectively, has to offer. So let’s have a closer look:

Shops - Tom Ford

At Tom Ford, one can spend $165 on a silk pocket square; $490 for a key chain (you read that right); or shell out $5,000 for an India handbag.

COS has a variety of dresses, tops, shoes, and swimwear – mostly hovering at around $100 or more. For men, the store sells a lot of shirts, jackets, and jumpers ranging from about $20 to $100.

Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting sells – ready for this? – bath, kitchen, and lighting supplies. It runs the gamut: sleek polished chrome faucets from $100 to $300; vanity light fixtures, also around $100 to $300. Or, shop for all the basic plumbing necessities – valves, pumps, pipes, and whatnot. It's like Ace Hardware, but not at all like Ace Hardware.

With a wide range of themed packages for bachelorette party, Sweet 16, and mother-and-daughter outings, Urbana Wellness Spa offers energy therapies, yoga, body massages, wraps, scrubs, and polishes.

After getting thoroughly massaged, wrapped, scrubbed, and polished, you can strut over to NARS Cosmetics and buy makeup and skincare accessories, including mascara and lip gloss with names like Copacabana, Audacious, and (blushes) Orgasm. Most products fall in the $20 to $50 range.

Indoor cycling business Flywheel offers 45-60-minute classes as well as 30-, 45- and, 60-second races. Purchase a yearly package of 20 sessions (at $24 per ride) or pay $28 per session. Could be a good time-killer for husbands/boyfriends stuck shopping with their wives.

Shops - Storefronts

Lindbergh, from Denmark, features clothing and accessories "for today’s informed man who is interested in acquiring a wardrobe that fits with every part of his life" – The Shops Buckhead Atlanta’s words, not ours.

Kit & Ace: Jackets, overalls, crew crops, and blouses for women; button-ups, pull-ups, polos, and pullovers (say that three times fast) for men; oh, and $48 pairs of boxer shorts.

Now, who wants to go shopping?
